Why use natural paints and plasters?

Updated: Feb 26, 2021

Besides the beautiful, harmonious, and unique looks there are many reasons to use natural paints and plasters instead of synthetic products:

AIR QUALITY

Natural products are much less likely to contain toxic compounds like formaldehyde, VOCs etc. that are released to the indoor air. They, on the contrary, have the ability to absorb toxins and odors from the indoor air thus improving the air quality and adding comfort to the living environment.

MOISTURE BUFFERING

Natural products are hygroscopic meaning that they can absorb humidity from moist air and release it back in the air when the air humidity decreases. This creates a pleasant and balanced indoor air with comfortable and healthy moisture levels.

ELECTROMAGNETIC PROPERTIES

Natural products rarely get electrically charged; in other words, they do not build up static electricity. Static electricity attracts dust and different allergens, mold spores etc and reduces the number of healthy small (negatively charged) air ions in the air.

ECOLOGY

Using natural products means much less burden and damage to the environment. Natural products are renewable and can often be harvested from nearby greatly reducing the need for long transportations. Manufacturing natural products requires much less energy and no toxins are needed in the production. Many natural building products can also be recycled or discarded to compost or landfills at the end of their life cycle.
